Later this year, the ELR will be holding a 'Recruitment Weekend' for prospective volunteer working members. Held at Bury Bolton Street Station, it will be encouraging enthusiasts and interested parties to get involved. Come along and meet the Heads of Departments.
Anyone interested in becoming a working member must be an ELRPS member and will be required to do a Basic Safety and Induction Course and to have a medical.
Alternatively, you can go on one of our regular Site Tours and gain an insight into the activities of each department before making your choice. You are, of course, free to change your mind at any time!
If you want to make a difference to the Steam, Diesel, Signalling and Guards Departments then please consider answering our call to arms. These departments operate in safety critical roles. Collectively they ensure that trains weighing up to 300 tons hauled by a locomotive weighing up to 100 tons run at approximately 25 miles per hour to meet timetable requirements in all weathers and throughout every season. It is a demanding but very rewarding volunteer career.
